One-man-band Gasper Nali is from the small town of Nkhata Day, on the shores of Lake Malawi.

He plays a 3-metre long one-string, home-made, 3-metre long Babatoni bass guitar with a stick and an empty beer bottle. With a cow skin kick drum and some catchy melodies, he’s created his own brand of amazing, original Afro Beats!

Since a video of him playing went viral with over 20 million views, Gasper’s unique style of Kwela music continues to receive an extraordinary amount of online attention.

He’s been featured by CNN and in the documentary “Deep Roots Malawi”, jammed with Joss Stone, and appeared on Wired for Sound – Malawi.

He’s also been remixed by Aroop Roy for Sol Power Sounds, and played by Iggy Pop on BBC 6!

Gasper’s debut album “Abale Ndikuwuzeni” is sung in the Malawi national language of Chichewa. The title roughly translating as ‘People, I want to tell you’.

His songs are about life and strife in the country, touching on social issues such as child marriages.

After successful European and UK tours in 2018-19, Gasper has been in writing new music and playing around Nkhata Bay, Malawi. Now, he’s ready to conquer the world in 2023.
