Kenny Ken

Kenny Ken started DJing back in 1989. He got into playing music by going to warehouse parties. It was while going to these all-night parties and then having to go straight to work that he decided to try being a DJ. He bought himself a set of Technics and began playing acid house and garage. He started playing regularly on pirate radio station Centreforce before moving to Dance FM and honing his skills through regular gigs from Labrynth. A residency at Crazy Club led to being signed by Dynamix DJ Agency in 1992 and international gigs During this time he was also resident at the famous Roast parties which was where jungle started to take hold of Kenny Ken, and it was these parties that put jungle firmly on the map. Kenny Ken maintains that the AWOL parties were the best parties that have never been matched by anyone up to this day. It was during the AWOL era that he made his first tune called ‘Everybody’s Friend’ which came out on Boogie Beat. By 93 he was playing all over the world and was the first jungle DJ to bring the music to Toronto Canada with MC GQ. It was also with GQ he did a show for Radio One called 1 in the Jungle. 1997 saw Kenny go in a new direction with the launch of Mix and Blen’ recordings. The first release on the label was a tune called Coppershot by GSquad who are now known as Supply and Demand. The second release was Reminiscence by DJ Mace, with whom Kenny started Planet Funk Recordings. After the launch of Mix and Blen’ Kenny was asked to join the team at Kiss FM. Today he’s still travelling all over the world, playing out regularly but also concentrating on his studio work as he knows he has it in him to make good music. He’s still going strong focusing on ragga jungle/ D&B and Nozstock will be no exception.
