#MeetTheNozCrew; Syph

Some of you Nozstockers may have seen that for our 20th edition we have been introducing you to our hardworking and dedicated crew. So *please be upstanding* for the one and only Syph, our master of ceremonies and firework extroadinare. #MeetTheNozCrew

What is your role at Nozstock?

“There are three phases to any Nozstock: the build-up, the festival weekend and the take-down.
For the build-up from end of April I stay up the Farm during the week and take care of the garbage and recycling. I also prepare the crew eating area. Another task is ordering and managing the fireworks and preparing the site for the display. And also being one of Noz’s b*ches I can get drawn into all kinds of farmyard related jobs – oh the joy!

During the festival weekend I am MC on the Orchard Stage and also set off the fireworks.

Finally I’m part of the small crew who for at least a month clear up and put the festival away for another year.”

What is your favourite Nozstock memory over the last 20 years?

“So many but two spring to mind.

The first would be standing at the back of the Orchard Stage with Noz while Martha Reeves was doing her thing and watching Julie dance her socks off. A Sunday night after another great weekend and after all her hard work Julie getting to relax and enjoy herself. Heartwarming.

The second was another Sunday closing act on the Orchard Stage. Vintage Trouble and the song ‘With A Little Help From My Friends: I sang throughout with tears rolling down my cheek. Memories of other festivals from the dim and distant past where we all sang along with Joe Cocker flooded in. Totally personal and overwhelming.”

What are you most looking forward to at #Nozstock2018?

“Being part of the Nozstock magic and witnessing the happy mixing of kids of all ages. Meeting up with old friends and chatting with new Stockers. Having a successful firework shoot. Enjoying a few sorbets from the van next to the Orchard Stage. Would also like to catch some of Reginald D. Hunter but may clash with my MC duties. Heigh ho – that’s Nozstock for me – so much to enjoy, but so much to miss! And probably most importantly having good weather during the month of clear-up.”

When you are not at Nozstock what do you do?

“It has been said that there is no life outside Nozstock and for some of us planning in various forms goes on throughout the year. What to introduce, to change, to improve.

Apart from that I potter in the garden, act as the Bromyard Scarecrow, get roped into AmDram – My Fair Lady coming up, fathom out cryptic crosswords, travel to exotic times and places on my Xbox One X and kill opponents (well at least as a vegan, I don’t eat them) and generally try to give more than I take from life.”
