Mix of the Millennium: J5 meets BBC Radio 6 Music

DJ Nu-Mark BBC 6 Mix

Here on the farm it’s fair to say that we love a good ol’ playlist to jam along to. Whether it’s Ella listening to the Spice Girls or Farmer Noz listening to a heavy dnb mix there’s always a tune a’ playing.

To get you in the mood for a festy, the irrepressible DJ Nu-Mark has teamed up with Tom Ravenscroft to get y’all excited for a Nozstock extravaganza. Pulling up the brakes on BBC Radio 6 Music,  one sixth of the dynamite hip hop crew; the supreme, the ultimate Jurassic 5, has produced an exclusive mix for the good old beebs.

With tunes from legendaries such as The Sugarhill Gang, A-Skills, Mobb Deep, Krafty Kutz and Bowie (Rest in Rock Star Peace) Nu-Mark’s guest mix is just the ticket for those summer vibes and Noz jitterbugs. Ch..ch..ch..check it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07g8n71

A sonic explosion at Noz 2016 – live acts for every appetite!

Live acts round up blog

Nozstock is a festival for everyone. No matter how old or young you are, whether you’re into reggae or indie, want to discover new bands and explore unusual sounds or just dance until you can’t feel your feet anymore, The Hidden Valley has something for every appetite and we’ve picked out a few acts for you to prove it!

Expect a huge range of music on the Orchard stage – from multi-instrumental extravaganzas to ska/ Britpop bands and ragey punk, there will be something to please each and every member of your gang!

Speaking of variety, we couldn’t help but begin with Slamboree. Described as “the perfect festival band” by Louder than War, Slamboree are a spectacular act, second to none. The 15-piece ensemble of theatrical artists and musicians haven’t released an album yet, but they have a strong presence on the UK festival circuit, building a loyal fanbase with their extravagant live shows. Their sound is a one-of-a-kind mash-up of electronic dance music, drum n’ bass, swing, and gypsy.

London-based Buster Shuffle, are coming to Nozstock with their brand new catchy album ‘Naked’. Their love for Britpop and ska is expressed through this album in its most complete form. Buster Shuffle have travelled all over Europe playing sold-out gigs and festivals. In the UK they have toured with the likes of The Holloways, The Wombats, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Chas ‘n’ Dave. This band is clearly doing what they love and we can’t wait to see them do what they do best.

The Lovely Eggs are a garage-pop duo from Lancaster expected to shake things up with their angry, girly vocals, loud guitars and surreal lyrics. They have built a reputation for their live shows, playing from squats in Europe and charity shops in Leeds, to SxSW in Austin, Texas and a two-month tour of America. They have produced four albums gaining much support from BBC 6 Music while their last record, ‘This is Our Nowhere, received 8/10 in the NME.

Over at the Garden stage there is a little surprise for reggae lovers! Shanty represent the classic roots of reggae, but the soulful vocals of Sam Raywood breath a freshness that makes their sound truly modern.

Deep in the Cabinet of Lost Secrets, Collective 43 are Nozstock regulars, returning for the third time with their playful and engaging live show. They draw inspiration from New Orleans street bands while bringing in swing, funk, ragtime and dub references. With eight to 14 members performing, this multi-instrumental congregation will make the Cabinet of Lost Secrets the place to be!

At the Bandstand you will discover up-and-coming indie acts that’ll make you wonder why you’ve never heard of them! Nottingham is a city with a thriving underground scene and its new export, Kagoule is robust proof of that. Described as “ferocious noise-makers”, Kagoule produce a sound that entails widespread alternative rock references, but remains, as yet, unspecified. They have supported bands such as The Wytches, Iceage and Drenge and played last year’s BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury Festival.

Cardiff can take pride in Houdini Dax. These three young lads have been playing together since school and they’ve become a hit booking across this summer’s festival calendar.  They bring a fresh take on the likes of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, while their energy on stage will definitely get you moving!

Some of the best UK and international live bands will appear on our stages promising to make this year’s Nozstock unforgettable! If you’d like to explore more acts check out our hip-hop and DnB picks or dive into our full line up here!

We caught up with Adele, our info team queen, who spends her Nozstock weekend keeping you informed and ready for anything…

Describe yourself in three words (when you are in festival-mode!)…

Determined, Excited. Amazed.

Tell us about your best festival moment.

Highlights have been The Jim Jones Revue a couple of years ago on the Orchard Stage, The Keys on the Bandstand in 2014, and any time The Correspondents play!

Who would be your ultimate-beyond-ultimate dream headliner at Nozstock?

The Pixes and or PJ Harvey.

Do you have any pet peeves at festivals!?

I hate the long walk from your tent to the car in big festivals, especially when you are packing up and leaving!

What are your thoughts on the future of the festival industry?

Its really tough to be a successful festival, there are so many out there competing with each other. But everyone loves a good festival, so long may it continue!

Is Nozstock what you expected it to be after 17 years?

I haven’t been here since the very beginning, like some of the hard-core crew members! But I am very proud to be a part of it now. From being a punter to part of the crew, as the festival has grown, has made me feel like I am really part of something special.

When you’re not making Nozstock happen, what are you doing?

I live in London with my boyfriend, who is the Orchard Stage Manager. We are very lucky to live in London and have loads of music on our doorstep, which we are always exploring! And I work for a festival bar company so I know my way around a few now!

And finally, what three things are always in your Noz survival kit?

Coffee. My duvet. My team!

Struggling to find that last minute present?

Christmas early bird tickets are now on sale so get those frosty fingers tip-tapping on that keyboard and get your friend, relative, or lover the best present of the year.

DE LA SOUL TO REPLACE WU-TANG CLAN AFTER CANCELLATION OF EUROPEAN TOUR

It is with massive regret that we have to announce the cancellation of our Saturday night headliner, Wu-Tang Clan.

We’re really disappointed to drop this bombshell on everyone and suffice to say the crew here are seriously heartbroken that Wu can’t make it. For many of us it was going to be the highlight of our weekend and we are crestfallen that Wu-Tang Clan are going to be missing out on one of the best audiences they could ever wish for. You guys! We have received no specific reason for the cancellation of the rest of their tour and are without control to enforce their attendance at Nozstock. We are told we will receive an official cancellation announcement from their management by the end of this week, which we will share with you.
In the same breath, we have to say a massive thank you to De La Soul for agreeing to take to the Orchard Stage in their place. We’re really excited to have them here and to have them step up on such short notice.
For over 20 years they have rocked us with their De La songs full of inscrutable samplings, whimsically irreverent lyrics, social commentary, light rhythm and laid back rhymes. They have gained respect within and outside the hip-hop community with their contributions to rap, as well as jazz, funk, soul and alternative genres. Not only are their musical innovations acclaimed and respected worldwide, but they paved a path for many alternative rap groups to come after them.

De La Soul

As per our terms & conditions, tickets are non-refundable as the festival is sold as a whole experience. Please check here for the full ticket terms & conditions. Please do not contact our office or ticket team to request a refund as we will be unable to oblige. We understand that this will be frustrating for some of you but we hope the new bookings will go some way to compensating.
As you know Nozstock is a homegrown, grassroots festival full of colour and wonder. The programme is crammed full with hundreds of the most astounding, incredible and inspiring artists on this planet. The site is looking mind-blowingly intergalactic and downright super-spacey. We also have so many other exciting performances happening over the weekend, we know we’re going to take your brain to another dimension.
It’s time to buckle up and step aboard the Starship Noz, have an exhilarating time with new and old friends, live in the moment and look forward to having one of the best weekends of your life!  As ever, more than anything, Noz is about it’s heart… and at the centre of ours is YOU, our crazy, beautiful and amazing punters.
Thanks for your undying support and your understanding with this change in the programming so late in the day.
Phasers set to fun, astronauts!

Just in case you weren’t excited enough already about the line-up, we’ve just added a whole host of tasty line up treats to get you in the mood for summer fun…

Friday welcomes Urban Music Award winner Fuse ODG to The Orchard Stage along with the original reggae rudeboy Neville Staple Band. Dr Syntax & Sparkz return to show Nozstock how it’s done. We also welcome saviours of soul The Computers and the self dubbed ‘cross pollinated reggae group’ By The Rivers.

Clarence Clarity hails the arrival of a deranged, dervish of creativity; one of the most exciting newcomers on the scene, whilst Welsh group White Noise Sound introduce their hypnotic onslaught of melody, groove and exploration. One of the most memorable acts of 2014, Disco Panther return to The Hidden Valley. Folk fancies Keston Cobblers Club and swing specialists Broken Brass Ensemble join them along with garage-punk quartet The Black Tambourines.

Over in The Coppice Psytrance stalwarts Tribe of Frog return to Nozstock to bring guests from across the pulsating psy-spectrum, including Brainiac, Asimilon, Psymettrix and Occular all doing live sets.  The Garden Stage also stars Granville Sessions, NLP, Afrocluster, Future Dub Project and Ella Martini whilst The Bandstand hosts House of Lions, Evenu, Circe’s Diner, Rozelle and Black Persuasion amongst others.

Reggae Roast, Sika Studios, The Blast and Tumble Audio take over The Bullpen

bullpen newspost

We work with some amazing people to make The Hidden Valley the best it can be, but for 2015 we have really outdone ourselves with a selection of the UK’s premier promoters joining us to take over The Bullpen…

First up taking over Friday is The Blast. Back in the days when single genre music events were all the rage, a group of friends from Bristol decided to step outside the box and give the people around them a taste of musical variety. After many late nights experimenting with the boundaries of bass music The Blast was formed. Their line up is headlined by P Money – who has been in MTV’s list of the best UK MCs and toured with Example. P Money is joined by Chimpo, Sam Binga & Redders, Blazey, Jaydrop, TS2W, FireManSam, Remidy and Koast.

Also taking over on Friday with a mash up of Dubstep, UK Garage, Grime, 3 step, Basscore and Funky, Tumble Audio will be dropping their beats, showing The Bullpen what bass is all about with a line up showcasing the likes of Deadbeat UK, Killjoy, Hadean, Hank Limit and Sergic & Lyka.

Saturday daytime is the turn of Reggae Roast, who have forged a reputation as the leading light in the resurgence of the UK dub / reggae scene. Following on from their broadcast on Kiss FM with Rodigan, the Reggae Roast team have been in high demand performing at countless shows and festivals across Europe. Their line up includes Mad Professor one of the leading producers in dub reggae’s second generation, Adam Prescott and Donovan Kingjay.

Saturday night and Sunday welcomes back Sika Studios, transforming The Bullpen into a hip hop squat. Enjoy Sika’s dynamic programming, bringing an urban style and a big time groove to your weekend. They welcome a sterling line up for 2015 including some of the most recognisable artists in the hip hop scene – Deadly Hunta, Klashnekoff, Devilman, Leaf Dog + BVA, Split Prophets, Tenchoo, and Team Dreebs.

We are beyond excited. Expect to enter the Bullpen and forget where you are…
