Nozstock 2019 Line-Up Announcement 2

That’s right, Nozstockers. It’s time for us to share with you even more (I know) incredible acts that will be joining us at our 21st anniversary. So, without further ado, tap your ankles thrice and close your eyes, for your dreams are about to come true.

We are delighted to announce, that joining us this summer, headlining The Orchard Stage are working-class heroes Sleaford Mods. Fresh off the back of their epic UK tour, the Nottingham duo will be delivering snarky lyricism and gritty guitar solos that’ll knock your socks off. Segments of their new album Eton Alive are sure to make an appearance during their Friday night headline set. Amongst minimalist beats, wry humour and a hell of a lot of effing and blinding, the Mods will bring punk angst and sharp criticism of the Britain’s contemporary social and political climate. Arm yourselves with your best mosh-moves and prepare for some serious rage release.

Breaking hard-rock down to its purest form is Soeur – they’ve been broken and beaten down by their shared experiences on the fringes of British rock music, only to come back stronger each time. A brutal assault on the senses, the South West rockers rock riffs that are so substantial they’ve got their own postcode.

At the opposite end of the spectrum are Cape Town’s Stone Jets. Joining Soeur for the Sunday sessions, while they may sound like yet another English indie band from Manchester, the Stone Jets wrap up traditional African percussion in soulful, bluesy tones, making for the ultimate toe-tapping tunes. A real musical treat.

Yes that’s right, Jungle DJ extraordinaire Ed Solo is back again to bring some Amen breaks to the Garden stage. A Noz favourite, we just couldn’t resist inviting Ed to return and show us the mixing and selection skills that have made him an internationally renowned party-starter. D&B crew – let’s ‘ave it!

Walking the yellow brick road alongside us will be Kioko, using rhythmic melodies and strong lyricism to promote their message of realness and respectfulness over at the Garden Stage. Timbali Sound System will lend his local dub flavours, alongside Last Tree Squad – the seven-piece outfit from Hereford and Kent blending hip-hop, jungle and dancehall. Nobody puts baby in the corner, and nobody narrows Town of Cats into just one genre. This nine-piece blend Afrobeat and ska with lashings of Latino and a side helping of funk – delish.

Prepare to get schooled by Lyrix Organix & Natty Speaks – a pioneering charity promoting live music and poetry events for young people, with a top MC to boot. This group fly the flag for young lives, humanitarian causes and a love of the environment, meanwhile, the Ghetto Funk All Stars ft. Profit & Verbal Highz will draw you into their daring, hedonistic party of punchy boom bap and tongue twisting lyricism.

Bigging up The Bandstand is the rootsy, bluegrass folk of Uphill and Still, steel string acoustics from the beautiful Son of John and previous BBC Introducing artist Holly Redford Jones. Getting nasty so you don’t have to, will be the Seattle-based Naked Giant and scuzzed-out alt-rockers Leeches – both of which are bound to get you bouncing and sweating in the weekend sunshine.

We’re always up for a chuckle and this year is no different. Returning to Nozstock for 2019 we have the incredibly talented Reginald D Hunter. The sardonic American cum-honorary-Brit has been touring the UK for nigh-on 20 years, and can be seen on ‘Have I Got News for You,’ ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown,’ and fronting his own show ‘Reginald D. Hunter’s Songs of the Border.’ Last year, he packed out the Dept. of Cultural Affairs and the Altered State hillside, and we are totally humbled that he wants to come spend the weekend with us again. If you missed him last year, this is the perfect opportunity to right that wrong!

Also tickling those funny bones at The Altered State for our 21st season is funnyman Phil Kay, award-winning writer, musician and comedian Phil Nicols and London-born Dane Baptiste who has been hailed as one of the best new acts in recent years.

Captaining the laughter ship is our favourite MC and comedienne Jayde Adams – the unruly Queen of social satire, musical interludes and queer characters.

Just as the name suggests, Stoned Cherries are a fruity and lively folk roots band from Bromyard bringing their signature sound to the stage. Injecting brand spanking new will be the Bone Dry Records Showcase ft. CW Jones, covering all genres from blues to hip-hop, while So So Sun will take us sweetly into Sunday with progressive structures and conceptual song writing.

Takeovers rule the Bullpen this year, and we’ve brought an enormous arsenal of friends ready to bring the barn down. Gorilla Tactics and MINIRIG are joining forces giving the venue a brand new soundsystem for ya’ll to enjoy. Hailing from mid-wales Black House join us for Friday down on the farm with Boundary B2B Fujin ft. Illustrate along with Shook x Bassface ft Phibes.

Saturday brings us Rinse FM regular and UK funky originator Marcus Nasty  who joins us to celebrate his birthday with us as part of the Durkle Disco Saturday takeover. Skank your head clean the following afternoon with the huge Rumble In The Jungle Takeover ft. Jungle legend, Remarc, a colossal B2B with Kelvin 373 & DJ Hybrid, and Bristol DJ Kamoh. More info on the takeovers coming soon!

Hanging with our two-tusked pals at the Elephant’s Graveyard on Friday daytime are Kaotik Kartel who bring us Ed Cox & Stivs joined by a massive daytime takeover from Gorilla Tactics. By night, the tunes turn to house music, with the biggest and best groovers in the business including Wax Worx, Ron Mexico, Roman Candles, Sandor, Groovekode and Milton Keynes massive Matt Brassington.

Sunday doesn’t slow down either, inviting Cardiff’s G-Bace, Mancunian Hobbs and legend of the Glaswegian underground scene Paul Flynn. With breaks as sharp as our elephant’s tusks, House Meanz House will bring an assault on the senses and Noz regulars Emotion return to takeover the Graveyard for an evening of old-school vinyl and classic rave anthems. We’ll bring the face paint.

Locked away in our secret cabinet for 2019 are some of the wackiest and wildest with Rosebud electronics, Kingsley Salmon and The Stiff Joints will slide into your DMs with their Jamaican-inspired jazz and blues and we defy you not to get jiggy with Olubundi – a master of West African moves like juju, highlife and waka.

Without getting too cheesy, we’re delighted to welcome back Hallouminati and their Greek-inspired party punk to the Cabinet and say a big hello to 7Suns – the multicultural smorgasbord of Spanish, English, Latino and Caribbean rhythms. While you could say Junkoactive Wasteman does what he says on the tin, we’re not entirely sure what that tin is; part man part rubbish bin, expect toxic lyrics, terrific Tinphonia tunes and a helluva laugh.

We hope we’ve whetted your appetite for the party to come and that you’ve got your red sparkly wellies at the ready because the road to Noz isn’t as long as you might think…with only 84 days to go we’ll be opening those gates in no time.

10 Years of Whartone Records ft. Sonny Wharton, Dom Kane, Dirty Secretz, Luke Stanger, Kid Cut, House Meanz House & more tba

After unforgettable takeovers at Noz 17 and 18, head honcho Sonny Wharton and crew return to Elephants Grave to celebrate 10 Years of the amazing Whartone Records. Founded in 2009, it’s been an incredible decade for them. Whartone Records has drawn support from the likes of Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez, received plays on Radio 1, Kiss FM and Capital and celebrated numerous top 10’s across the download stores. With a huge line up including Sonny Wharton, Dom Kane, Dirty Secretz, Luke Stanger, Left Stereo Right ~ live, Kid Cut, House Meanz House and more tba, we can’t wait to see what their tenth birthday party will bring…

Sonny Wharton

A firm fixture in the House and Techno scene, Sonny Wharton has established himself as one of the finest DJ/Producers to emerge from the UK in recent years. Sonny’s skillful ability to captivate the audience with his energetic performance and diverse track selection is what prominently positions him behind the decks of many of the world’s biggest clubs and festivals. Whilst sharing the bill with everyone from Laurent Garnier and Steve Lawler, to Armand Van Helden and Eric Prydz, Sonny consistently delivers on a global scale playing everywhere from Pacha, Sao Paolo and the Berlin Love Parade in Germany to London’s legendary Ministry of Sound and the iconic Glastonbury Festival. Holding international residencies at both Club Octagon in Seoul and Solidaritet in Stockholm, Sonny’s DJ career has been solid from the start.

Dom Kane

As an artist, 2016 saw Dom Kane signed to mau5trap, with his music having previously been heard globally in DJ sets from the likes of Deadmau5 and James Zabiela to name a few, with plays on BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM. As a DJ, Dom has held residencies at some of the world’s most legendary clubs. As a sound designer, the name Dom Kane has appeared in factory presets for synthesisers including FXpansion (D-CAM & Geist), Xfer (Nerve/Serum) and the legendary hardware synth company Moog (Animoog, Little Phatty, Slim Phatty, Sub 37 Tribute). Since Dom Kane was featured with an Artist Series sample pack on Loopmasters back in 2008, his sound banks and samples have appeared in studios worldwide via his own label Quantum Loops too. The past few years alone saw Dom Kane ascending fast amongst the ranks of House music producers: his singles and remixes topping the online Top 40 (Signal Rejected, Space, Blagger); as well as having a full artist feature and front cover DVD in Future Music Magazine. His music has appeared on TV channels including; Sky1 (Got To Dance), Channel 4 (Embarrassing Bodies), E4 (Made In Chelsea) and Channel 5 (Celebrity Big Brother) to name a few.

Dirty Secretz

Dirty Secretz is one of house music’s most exciting artists. With tracks unleashed on respected house music labels including Skint, Stealth and Nervous alongside a wealth of track support from Armand Van Helden, Todd Terry and Fatboy Slim to name a few, it’s easy to see why this Leicester-based DJ is causing a fuss on both sides of the Atlantic. Dirty Secretz music frequently hits the radio airwaves with support across BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM & Capital. From remixing legendary artists X-Press 2 & K-Klass to focusing on his solo releases and DJing for Rolling Stone, Dirty Secretz refuses to stand still.

Luke Stanger

Nothing quite expresses those summer festival vibes better than upbeat, groovy house music, and nobody does upbeat, groovy house music like Luke Stanger. With that catchy vocal, a cheeky nod to the rave days and another funk enfused bassline Luke’s next single ‘Acid House’, forthcoming on Whartone Records, will transport you from the rolling Hills of Herefordshire to the glistening beaches of Miami.

You heard it here first | Bandstand 2019

Are you that person who bangs on about that time you saw **insert**band**here, before they were famous, at that wonderful, independent, boutique festival in Herefordshire? Welcome to the Bandstand. Your bragging points are waiting. We’ve got an impressive backlog of passers through; Idles, Kagoule Boy Azooga, Soeur, and The Computers have all graced the Bandstand, and I’m sure we’ll be saying exactly the same about some of the artists from this years stellar lineup.

Nozstock’s place-to-be for raw, unsigned and experimental sounds, this year is no exception. With genres spanning from glam-rock to bluegrass, there is something for everyone on this Dingle-top stage – so hold on to your slippers, you’re in for one hell of a ride…

Heading up the line-up is Sam Brookes, who’s soaring alt-folk melodies will transport you to another world. His impressive vocal range and evocative lyrics as seen in Numb, have seen him gain serious critical recognition, leading to collaborations with the likes of Lucy Rose, Newton Faulkner and Basement Jaxx to name a few. Be prepared to be truly blown away by his raw and beautiful sound and effortlessly charming performance.

Ever wonder what would happen if the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the South had an angsty love child? Well, it would probably sound something like Frauds. This energetic duo combines thick jagged riffs and beats blended with a tandemic mixture of humour and anger in equal measure.

Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! No wait, it’s Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard! Formed in 2016, this four-piece from Cardiff started as all great bands have – as a bedroom project. Since then, they have quickly evolved into a fresh glam-rock sound, receiving Radio 1 support and booking some big festival shows this summer – so watch this space!

Somewhere over the Rainbow Maniac, guitar riffs fly. With influencers including The Rolling Stones, The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys, this South Wales foursome radiates confidence and shimmers with style. Make sure you don’t miss out on their energetic live performance.

Taking us back to Kansas is Medicine Creek, who have been plying their whisky-soaked brand of bluegrass and Americana since forming in Bristol in 2010. Their adrenalin-fuelled live act and gospel-flavoured harmonies have seen them gain a cult following, being invited to festivals such as Glastonbury and Shambala. These guys bring warm vocals, an infection sense of fun and a good old-fashioned thigh-slapping knees-up.

Pierre Donahue’s beautifully ethereal vocals, country-esque guitar and steady rhythms are faintly reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac or Arcade Fire. It’s this folk / Americana sound that has led him to perform at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. So kick back and listen as this master song-writer transports you to Tennessee.

Like something out of the Haunted Forest, Wych Elm birth a macabre string of stories with their ear shredding fragile guitar parts and rattling drums. Check out the beautifully chilling vibrations on their highly anticipated debut EP, rat blanket, released just days ago on the 22nd March via brand new Bristol label Post Mortem Records.

We also have some post-punk outfits gracing the bandstand this year with Do Nothing, an art-rock band from Nottingham with creative lyricism and playful genre-spanning sounds, and Cruelty, who’s tracks provides an intriguing journey into intensity and discomfort.

And last but by no means least, we have Josie Blake, with her richly woven guitar melodies and a voice that has been likened to Anna Calvi and Patti Smith. This girl is heading for greatness faster than you can click your ruby heels.

Hospitality, Benny L, Ed Rush, A.M.C and Nu Motive take over the Cubicles.

There is a special place for Drum & Bass here at Nozstock, and that place is called the Cubicles. We pull out the stops every year to ensure all your DnB needs are exceeded, and this time around, we may have gone bigger than ever. This year, The Cubicles will host some of the biggest and baddest DJ acts the scene has to offer.

Friday Night

Friday night see’s Hospitality take over the barn, with heavy hitters Kings of the Rollers set to tear the arena up with their unique style. Serum, Voltage and Bladerunner have individual releases across d&b’s biggest labels including Metalheadz, Ram Records and Low Down Deep. However together they have kicked off the year with their number one Beatport chart topper ‘Burnt Ends’. These three have grown dramatically in the past year with headline slots at Rampage and Boomtown Fair in front of tens of thousands.

Next up for the Hospitality takeover sees Drum & Bass veteran Danny Byrd take to the decks. Danny was one of the first to sign to the label at the turn of the millennium and since has created a signature mixing style and production flair to render him one of the scenes greatest. His debut album ‘Supersized’ dropped in 2008, which included signature tracks such as ‘Shock Out’ and ‘Red Mist’, with the VIP of the latter of those two receiving huge support receiving over 6 hours of Radio 1 airtime in 2009! A true Drum & Bass stalwart – Danny Byrd has remained hyper-relevant in a new age of d&b, with new album Atomic Funk garnering acclaim from new and old-heads alike.

Friday night will also see host to one of the most exciting talents in the scene, Keeno, whose third studio album got hailed by critically acclaimed Nozstock regular DJ Andy C as a masterpiece – that’s some achievement! Production aside, Keeno’s mixing technique is second to none, so much so that he launched the ‘60 Minutes of Med School’ series on BBC Radio 1xtra, ever since he has been the Med Schools highest tier DJs, headlining shows across the globe!

Unglued stormed onto the scene with the release of ‘Bootstrap Bill’ gaining attention from DnB heavyweights across the globe, receiving support from the likes of Noisia and Metrik. 2018 saw him really get DnB fans attention with the release of the most sought after dubplate of last year, his bootleg of the High Contrast anthem ‘If We Ever’. He’s been tipped as one to watch from UKF and internationally renowned magazine DJ Mag, this is one not to be missed!

Hosting this night with his poignant lyrics and positive vibes will be the true talisman of the underground scene that is Inja. Describing his style as ‘different flows for different shows’ Inja will be joined by Nozstock regular MC Carasel to host and toast some incredible Drum & Bass.

Saturday Night

It doesn’t stop there with the onslaught of Drum & Bass at Nozstock this year. Saturday night will see Benny L go b2b with Shimon. Benny has made his name known with basslines that don’t bang but groan and moan under weighty production. With releases such as ‘Low Blow’ and ‘Thunder’, Benny L has taken the scene by storm this past year, and it’s no wonder he won the award for best newcomer at the drum&bassarena awards last year. Shimon needs no introduction with his legacy being nearly as old as drum and bass itself. With tracks like ‘Quest’ and ‘Titan’ not only being vital for his ascent, but also for the expansion of drum and bass engineering. Shimon has been a big influencer for Benny in his career, we’re really excited to see these two back to back shelling down the Cubicles this year!

Next up see’s a man that changed the face of Drum & Bass, Ed Rush will showcase his limitless styles to the Cubicles on Saturday night. One of the originators to bring back the dark sounds of drum and bass and push it to new levels, Ed Rush continues to make waves with each new release. After teaming up with Optical to create their label ‘Virus Recordings’, their eventual LP ‘Wormhole’ was released to critical underground success and is regarded as a genre classic. Again, one not to be missed at the Cubicles.

A.M.C is one of the most respected modern DJ’s, producers and label owners in the game. With his four deck sets regarded as some of the very best, you’d be foolish to miss this one. His development as an artist is just as classical to his rise as a DJ. Spending years understanding studio science, he never refuses to release anything until satisfied it can stand up against the best, leading to high profile releases such as ‘Thor’ and ‘Southpaw’, not to mention his huge remix of TC’s ‘Tap Ho’.

Up and coming DJ Kanine is gradually developing into the headline act he was tipped to be since entering scene. Supported by some of the biggest and most influential names in drum and bass helping force his sound into the mainstream, Kanine is recognised as one of the leading names in the new wave of Jump Up producers. This set is sure to be a fan favourite, see you at the stack.

Local promoters Nu:Motive will be making the short trip to the farm for a 3-hour takeover of the Cubicles! The DJ collective will be bringing nothing but the best in the DnB and underground music scene, we’re really excited to have the Hereford based collective hosting the Cubicles for 3 hours. Nozstock regular Octo Pi returns again this year showcasing his versatile DJ skills. We love having him back year on year, he’ll provide a set that’s guaranteed to tear down the barn.

Joining them we have Pastry Maker, Remidy MC, Phantom, Want more? Luckily for you we’ve created a playlist full of some of our favourite tracks from Cubicles artists this year.

Welcome to the Garden 2019

Garden stage
The Garden Stage 2018

Welcome to the Garden – Nozstock’s booming backyard. Our melting pot of bass music is back with a bang. Home to hip-hop, drum & bass, reggae, rock and everything in between, everyone is welcome in our garden – as long as you abide by our one rule. It better be loud.

By day the Garden is an idyllic scene overlooking lake Noz – a perfect spot to soak in the sun and visit the garden bar – all to the soundtrack of some dazzling music. By Night? It’s a haven of bright lights, thundering beats and ear-shattering basslines.

Garden Bar

This year we’ve got an arsenal of musical weaponry ready to launch assault on your eardrums. Heading up the lineup – we’ve got UK dance heavyweight DJ Zinc. Sending heavy subs and skatty breaks since the days of Super Sharp Shooter, Zinc’s legendary status is in no doubt to those in the scene. Traversing through all areas of UK Bass music, from d&b, ragga-infused jungle, 2-step garage and traditional breakbeat, Zincs gathered a fair few tricks up his sleeve over his 25+ years in the game. After leaving the D&B scene for a while in the mid-noughties and moving onto pastures new, recent performances including dynamic b2b’s with special request have re-energised Zinc, and he’s here at The Garden, ready to teach us a thing or two.

Alongside Zinc we’ve got one of underground musics most renowned hosts in SP:MC. An unbelievably versatile MC and undeniably talented rapper in his own right, SP’s hosted events for Metalheadz, Autonomic, Hospital, Digital Soundboy, Soul:R, Innerground and more as well as his own label Shogun Audio. SP’s ability to guide you through a set is second-to none, his talkative delivery glides you through the dance, making you feel as if every word is exactly in its right place. As well as MCing, SP is a renowned DJ in his own right, with his records garnering heavy rotation from D&B icons such as Andy C, DJ Marky, Friction & Goldie

Randall at Nozstock

Joining the D&B crew we have veteran DJ & Nozstock regular Randall. with a career spanning over two decades, Randall has steadily built a reputation as one of the best DJ’s the UK has to offer, bringing an army weighty dubplates every time he steps up to DJ. A true D&B and Jungle legend, Randall’s set is never one to be missed.

Representing the Jump-up side of D&B, we have DJ & producer Turno. With a growing presence in the scene, Turno’s name is ever-present on lineups across the U.K, bringing a high energy- quick mixed pace to the dance. With bangers such as The Invaderz being heard frequently in the rave, Turno’s face-melters are sure to be blessing the D&B scene for years to come. Not for the faint hearted.

As per usual we have some pillars of the UK Hip-Hop community representing on The Garden stage. This year we’ve got iconic bar-spitters from across the isles, both past and present.

Mud Family originator and Finsbury Park icon Skinnyman, will be blessing our ears with his street wisdom-laced lyricism this year. Reinstating his importance as one of UK Hip-Hop’s most distinctive and important voices with a string of performances over the last few years, Skinnymans politically-charged bars motivated and inspired a generation of hiphop heads with unforgettable tunes such as “I’ll be surprised” and “Fuck the hook”  from the culturally profound “Council Estate of Mind” — and now he’s back, mic in hand, ready to do it all again.

Joining him we have two High Focus Records stalwarts ready to bring some bars to the Garden in Dabbla and Jam Baxter. Both rappers possess the unique ability to bounce, weave, duck and dodge between darkness-laden flows and bouncy jovial beats – balancing murkiness and playfulness as if it were notihing.

Baxter’s outlandish content & trailblazing style presents him as one fo the most enigmatically engrossing acts in the UK Hip-Hop scene. Known for old-school hip-hop staples such as Brains, these days Baxter tends to experiment with his flow and style – tracks such as “for a limited time only” and “mask” show his sonic exploration, but his signature personality always remains the most prevalent factor.

Dabbla’s dexterity from boom-bap to trap allows him to bring an energy to his music which permeates throughout his live performances – his rapid-fire flow has been known to cast a spell of carnage from stage to audience. From Psychoville to Death Moves, Dabbla’s lyrical skill and darkness casts a mesmerising spell when he’s on-mic – we can’t wait to see what these two High Focus OG’s have in store.

We’re delighted to welcome back genre-bending grime-punk fusers Pengshui. Made up of Prav (Foreign Beggars), Illaman and Submotion Orchestra’s Fatty, each artists brings a bag-full of musical pedigree, which combines to form a fiery blaze of musical energy. After last years performance there was no way we could keep them off the lineup this year. If you like your music hard, this isn’t one to miss. Here’s an example of the energy you can expect.

Gardna at the Garden Stage

Bringing the flavour this year we’re buzzing to see what our Boom Sound takeover has in offer. Head Honcho Gardna has steadily built a reputation out of Bristol with his mic-controlling mastery – from dancehall to reggae and D&B. Joining him we have MC and singer Eva Lazarus, slowly on her way to stardom, conquering each genre one by one – all while unsigned and self-managed. There’s nothing this woman can’t do, from reggae bangers with Mungos Hi-Fi (Amsterdam & Live my life), to big name crossovers with Swindle (Knowledge), Eva’s versatility presents her as one of the most exciting voices in the UK Bass scene right now.

Joining them for Boom Sound we have chameleonic DJ & producer Prince Fatty and his trusted MC Horseman. Both respected artists in their own right, Fatty and Horseman drew attention as a duo from a collection of dub-sprinkled, reggae-topped hip-hop covers. With tracks such as Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Insane in the Membrane  getting dropped regularly at sound-system nights across the U.K, theres no doubt you’ve heard Fatty’s bouncing-steppas and Horseman’s deep patois flow in a dance near you. Not one to miss – it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Joining them we have Boom Sound residents Kreed, Asbo Disco and Fat Stash who will be handling proceedings from the decks.

Representing the ever-growing UK Bassline scene, we have one of the scenes most prominent next-gen artists in Notion. With tracks such as Vex garnering support from UKF and B2B’s with baseline VIP’s Darkzy, Skepsis, Holy Goof and Bru-C, Notions stock is rising within the UK bass music community.

Reppin the Old School we have breakbeat & Hip-Hop DJ A Skillz. The U.K based artist is known for masterfully chopping and flexing funk with Hip-Hop (Poppa Soul) and we’re excited to see what his progressive mixing has in-store for us this year.

Rounding off the Garden stage this year we have Nozstock regulars Rumble in the Jungle, sure to bring the steppa style thats catapulted them to the forefront of Bristol’s lively music scene.

The Orchard Stage 2019

Dust off those red ruby wellies and begin to make your way down the yellow brick road, for it’s not long until you’ll be entering the magical Land of Noz!

Here at NozHQ, we work relentlessly to gather the very best live artists, performers, show-stoppers and feet-stompers from far and wide to appear on our beloved Orchard Stage – and 2019 has been no exception. We have picked the crème de la crème of acts – just for you!

So, without further ado, behold the musical wonders that will appear on the Orchard in only a few months’ time…

We are delighted to announce Rudimental as the first act we welcome to the Orchard Stage. Making waves with their music since 2009, the Hackney-based boys have skyrocketed to the top of their game, holding a No.1 album in ‘Home’, a BRIT Award and a Mercury Prize nomination under their belts. Working an urban fusion of reggae and soul into their sound, Rudimental have also mastered the art of collaboration, working with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Anne-Marie and Jess Glynne – some of the very best and biggest names the industry has to offer. Known for delivering high energy performances that pack a punch, it’s no surprise that these guys have headlined many major festivals before.

Next up we have soul & dance legends and international chart toppers Soul II Soul. With over 10 million albums sold worldwide, Soul II Soul stormed the 90’s with smash hits ‘Back to life’ and ‘Keep on Movin’ catapulting them into superstardom and household-name status. We’re delighted to have them gracing the Orchard Stage with the dance-conjuring experience that has permeated throughout their live performances and recorded music for over thirty years.

Joining them in experienced party-starters we have Britains leading authority in all things reggae and dancehall, David Rodigan. After being in the broadcasting game for over forty years, David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan has cemented his legendary status with an unbelievable worldwide touring schedule, ground-breaking radio shows, and has even been awarded an OBE in the process. A certified UK music icon, Rodigan’s energy and love for the music he champions transfers from him to audience, causing smiles from ear to ear.

Jamaica’s premier ska band since 1964, The Skatalites, are landing to play us their infectious brand of bluesy, jazzy ska that spread like wildfire around the island, subsequently spawing the entire genres of ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, two-tone and 3rd wave ska. Pioneers in the purest sense of the world, The Skatalites maintain the same high-standards and innovation which has flown through their work since all those years ago – we’re so excited to see them on our stage.

Extra-terrestrial music-makers, Henge, come to planet Earth with one aim – to bring the rave. Henge’s incomparable sound is one that they call ‘cosmic dross’ – an eclectic mix of genres including EDM, synth and psychedelia. Bursting to the brim with intergalactic soundwaves and visuals, their performance is guaranteed to throw you into the stratosphere.

Returning to Nozstock this year, we gift to you the sensational voice of Hollie Cook.  Not one to place herself into boxes, Cook has carefully crafted a genre that she has labelled as ‘tropical pop’, a mesmeric reggae/electronic/synth mix and has previously teamed-up with legendary producer Prince Fatty to perfect her sound. Be simultaneously lifted and grounded by her music through dreamy harmonic vocal arrangements and sturdy rhythms. Whatever the weather at Noz’19, we know that Cook will be bringing the sunshine.

Who praises the sinners and punishes the saints…? Yes, Oh My God! It’s The Church return for their third consecutive year on the farm. Singing, strutting and showing off what the Good Lord has given them, they are set to bring even more commotion to the congregation. Non-believers be prepared for blasphemy, debauchery and baptisms of absinthe – it’s the faith you’ve always wanted to follow. Get ready to confess your deepest and darkest secrets to this Church, because in the wise words of the Reverend ‘If you don’t sin, Jesus died for nothin’.

Ever wondered what would happen if Elvis joined forces with Nirvana? Witness it for yourself, as rock ‘n’ roll-meets-grunge band Elvana, who will be hitting our Orchard Stage this summer with some serious head-banging and hip-swivelling action. Unapologetically mashing up genres by splicing the King’s and Cobain’s best work, Elvana are what people are calling a ‘stroke of absolute genius.’.

If you fancy yourself a shindig at this year’s Noz, fist-pounding partnership Swampcandy are the band for you. The Maryland-based two-piece made up of Rueben Dobbs and Joey Mitchell bring a raucous good time of hand stompin’ and foot clappin’ to their music, which is soaked in the primitive blues. Take a walk on the wild side with this pig drinkin’, whiskey eatin’ American music.

We can’t cram all the Orchard Stage acts on this page but if you want more details, take a look at our full line-up here.

If July still seems too far away, don’t worry, we have created an Orchard Stage playlist on Spotify for you to immerse yourself in until the big week arrives – check it out here.

Also on the Orchard Stage 2019 line up we have: Hotsteppas, The Social Ignition, Elijah Miller, Arcadia Roots, King Kong Company, The Stiff Joints, The Carny Villains, Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra, Year of The Dog, Junior Bill, Bryony Sier, Alex Lleo, Katherine Priddy & Beth Prior Collective.

Nozstock 2019 line-up announcement!

Grass as green as emeralds. The sun shining high in the sky. Trippy, technicolour décor. Kindly weirdos to join you on adventures who you’d never get to meet in the real world… Nozstock and the Land of Oz have a lot in common. You know what else they’ve got in common? Being full of banging tunes. While Dorothy has her predicament narrated in song by a cast of native munchkins, here on the Farm we’ve got to draft in an army of turntablists, drum-bashers, string-pluckers and singers to perform the musical backdrop to your weird weekend.

Orchard Stage

Luckily for you, we’ve gotten pretty good at this line-up thing over the years. Keep an eye out for hurricanes ready to whisk you away from your black-and-white reality to the fantasy of the Orchard Stage, whose humble boards will be hosting the award-winning multi-genre collective Rudimental, (DJ set) bringing the vibrant dance magic which has won them countless sold-out tours and headline slots.

Soul II Soul – who you’ll doubtlessly know from their smash hits ‘Back to Life’ and ‘Keep on Movin’ – will be keeping you moving throughout the summer evening. If ska is what you’re after then you could do a lot worse than The Skatalites, whose infectious sound spawned ska, two-tone, dub, rocksteady and reggae as we know it.

Get ready to wine with the best of ‘em with a set from dancehall master and all-round legend David Rodigan. Also gracing us with one of her iconic live performances will be Hollie Cook, one of the most highly-regarded names in reggae right now.

The beautiful lovechild of the King of Rock and the princes of grunge, Elvana, will showcase their inimical stylings. Rave-drunk beings from outer space, Henge, will be crashlanding to initiate us in the ways of cosmic dross aold onto your hats for the explosive dubby electro outfit King Kong Company. We thought you didn’t get enough of the Good Word last year… or the year before… so we’ve brought back the unholiest of holies who will be making you scream ‘Oh My God! It’s the Church!’ and down on your knees begging for more.

The Garden

Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road round the farm and you’ll happen upon the Garden Stage, a firm fan favourite on the farm and your home for all things big and bass-y over the weekend.

Leading the charge will be Zinc, one of dance music’s most respected pioneers who can boast genuine underground and mainstream success across the genres of house, breakbeat, UK garage and drum ‘n’ bass. Next there’ll be firm favourite DJ Randall, who brought Nozstock to a standstill in 2016 and is back to give you more of what you want.

Rising star Notion will be showing us all why he’s one of the most exciting figures in dance music today. Meanwhile, prepare yourself for an electric live performance from your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper, Dabbla, and raw live supergroup Pengshui, whose sound encompasses the best of grime, rap, dance, punk and metal.

One of the few British emcees who needs no introduction, Skinnyman has received wide acclaim from the UK hip-hop press, and no doubt you Nozzers will give him an equally warm welcome. One of the most exciting artists to emerge from the UK rap scene, Jam Baxter, will be shutting the stage down like there’s no tomorrow, while turntablist wizard A.Skillz will be serving up a unique musical cocktail blended with his distinctive funk sound. Forgot to pack your bass? Don’t worry, mixmaster Featurecast will be bringing more than enough to go round, while born entertainer Turno will create a journey for you with his skillful drum ‘n’ bass, quirky humour and playful antics onstage.

Finally, because we love to give the stage over to the people at the top of their game, we’ll be hosting independent Bristolian record label Boom Sound for a takeover, including multi-talented producer, mixer and DJ Prince Fatty & Horseman, infectious lyricist Gardna joined by party anthem machine Eva Lazarus.

Cubicles

If you need somewhere to take shelter from a horde of flying monkeys, hurry on over to the Cubicles, our premiere converted-cowshed-dancefloor and the best place to catch some filthy drum ‘n’ bass. It’s our privilege to once again be hosting game-toppers Hospitality and their array of hand-picked drum ‘n’ bass talent for a takeover which is bound to get messy.

Pioneering drum ‘n’ bass collective Kings of the Rollers will be showing the farm what they’ve got, and the Byrd is the word when it comes to one of Hospital Records’ first signings, king of the dancefloor Danny Byrd. Named one of the top 20 producers in 2013, Keeno has only gone from strength to strength since, and he’ll be showcasing his broad and versatile style for you in 2019. Finally, put your hands together for a warm Nozstock welcome to one of the newest members of the hospitality family, Unglued, one of the hottest names in the drum ‘n’ bass circuit right now. This rowdy lot’ll be joined by the genre-spanning and boundary-pushing MC Inja.

Saturday will see a legendary back to back set from drum ‘n’ bass greats Shimon and Benny L, as well as a takeover from supreme tastemakers and Noz residents Nu:motive. Triple threat DJ, producer and label owner AMC will be demonstrating his carefully honed craft and technical articulation. Never one to miss a good party, the infamous Ed Rush – who has repeatedly changed the face of drum ‘n’ bass – will be down to show us how it’s done. It’s a dog eat dog world, and Kanine – the ambitious young producer credited with pushing Jump Up into the mainstream – is ready to kill – one to watch ‘coz the only way he’s going is up.

Bandstand

When you want to kick off your ruby slippers and relax but keep the music coming, make your way through the Dingle to discover the Bandstand. If you want to say smugly that you saw ‘em before they were big, this is the stage for you.

Bristolian bluegrass extraordinaires Medicine Creek will have you stomping your feet to their unique brand of old-time string band sound, while noisy post-hardcore lads Frauds make music which is a mix of danceable, fun, and downright angry. Guitar-driven indie four-piece Rainbow Maniac will have you dancing like you’re a teenager in the heady days of NME again, and be prepared to fall in love with up-and-coming alt-folk Wunderkind Sam Brookes.

Cardiff-based birds Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are influenced by ‘70s glam rock and advise that their music should be listened to ‘ironically’, while Dylan Thomas enthusiast singer-songwriter Pierre Donahue draws on the likes of Nick Drake, Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt for inspiration, all with the distinctive lilt of his home country. Fans of all things folklore and fearsome will want to catch shoegaze slacker rock-inspired outfit Wych Elm, and if you do one thing all weekend, make it down to the ‘Stand to catch Nottingham’s finest emerging art-rockers Do Nothing.

Elephant’s Grave

The bravest among you may wish to extend your quest further to the west of the Land of Noz, following in the footsteps of giants to find the Elephant’s Grave. The latest addition to the farm, the Grave has been open since 2017 bringing you the finest in dub and reggae by day and deep dark house and techno when night falls.

Nozstock regulars Subwork will be returning with a bass-heavy takeover featuring Garden Stage curator and Brap FM regular Tenz, turntablist Revrt and the versatile, hip-hop entertainer Natty Speaks. We know that Data Transmission are just as passionate about dance music as we are, which is why we’ve handed them the reigns for a Friday-night takeover full to the brim with the best dance music-makers, for your delectation.

Whartone Records, the brainchild of Noz fixture Sonny Wharton – will be celebrating their 10th birthday in style, with a takeover representing the freshest faces and the tried-and-tested favourites of the UK house and techno scene. The man himself will be flexing his skills, along with house heavyweights Dom Kane, Dirty Secretz, and Luke Stanger.

Cabinet of Lost Secrets

Those of you who have experienced the Cabinet of Lost Secrets will know it needs no introduction. If you’re looking for a skank you’ve come to the right place, with sets from reggae and hip-hop influenced six-piece Lobster who plumb the depths of ska, dubby punk and everything in between.

Electro-soul pioneers Happy Daggers will be inducing some serious dance moves with material from their as-of-yet-unreleased debut album, while festival favourites Punch The Sky will sweep you off your feet with one of their now-infamously-energetic, world-music-influenced live shows: resistance is futile. Described as ‘The Streets meets Joe Strummer’, Birmingham-based spoken word artist Joe Cook will be delivering incisive social commentary in his unmissable rhythmic style.

Follow the yellow brick road…2019 theme announced!

Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Bromyard any more…

We get it. Every now and then the everyday world feels dull, dreary, black-and-white even, the drudgery of work, college, a flat pint in a cheap pub and a rainy walk home with only the thought of summer and a few weekends of freedom on the horizon to keep you going. Sometimes you just want to get away from it all, go on an adventure, meet some new mates, get some new shoes, maybe melt an evil witch or two, generally have a good time. Maybe somewhere over the rainbow, where the sparkling emerald slopes of the Hidden Valley will melt away your troubles and where things are ready to get well and truly weird…

That’s right Nozstockers, this year we’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful wizard of Noz – and you’re all coming along for the ride. Because we’re lovers of all things technicolour, trippy and ever so slightly terrifying – as well as a good pun – we have decided to spend our twenty first year paying tribute to the iconic 1939 film which inspired so many sequels, prequels, spin-offs and pop culture moments – as well as its fair share of childhood nightmares, we’re sure. Our humble farm will be transformed into the glittering Emerald City, and we’ll be inviting friends of Dorothy from far and wide to join us. From rainbows, lemondrops and cowardly lions to flying monkeys, psychiatric wards and Michael Jackson, there’s something for everyone within the Oz universe – and we’re looking forward to seeing your imaginations at work, my pretties.

Make sure you pack your red sequined wellies and remember – there’s no place like the farm!
